Jonathan Boyd
Director
Jonathan Boyd is the Fire Chief of the City of Allen Fire Department. With 125 employees and a $35 million annual budget, the Allen Fire Department provides fire protection services, emergency medical services, public safety education, life safety code enforcement, and specialty rescue services to Allen’s 125,000 residents.
Since joining the City of Allen Fire Department as a firefighter in 1996, Boyd has held key positions including Driver/Engineer, Captain, Division Chief and Assistant Chief of Operations. Following a national search, Boyd was selected as Allen’s third fire chief on August 4, 2018.
Boyd graduated from the fire academy at Collin College in 1993 as Valedictorian of Fire Academy Class #3. Following his early training as a firefighter and paramedic, he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in 2011 and received his Master of Public Affairs from UTD in 2013. Boyd also graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program of the National Fire Academy in 2017.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic Chief Boyd led the city-wide response with recommendations for emergency orders, public education campaigns, meetings with area businesses, and working with the Allen ISD. The response focused on protecting vulnerable populations, providing personal protective gear to local health care providers, and frequent meetings with community leaders to coordinate the response. Early in the Pandemic, Boyd mobilized the AFD team to prepare for mass vaccination initiatives, which resulted in Allen being named one of the 33 vaccine hubs in the State of Texas. The Allen Vaccine Hub was the largest, public entity, vaccine site in Collin County, and a streamlined drive-through process allowed the AFD to administer over 91,000 vaccines in early 2021. Along with the vaccine hub, the AFD provided on-site vaccination to senior living communities, and the COVID-19 helpline aided those who did not have the technological capability to register for a vaccine. These efforts resulted in the City of Allen having the lowest infection rate, hospitalization rate, and fatality rate of all large Collin County cities.
On May 6, 2023, Chief Boyd led a critical response to an active shooter event at the Allen Premium Outlets. Under his leadership, the department swiftly coordinated with local law enforcement, managing the scene’s security and overseeing the medical response. This included the rapid deployment of emergency services to treat the injured and facilitate the safe evacuation of thousands of shoppers.
